Ogbonnaya Showers Praise on Sunshine Queens for Historic FA Cup Achievement

The Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, has showered encomiums on the players and officials of Sunshine Queens FC following the club’s remarkable campaign in this year’s President Federation Cup, despite their semi-final exit.

Ogbonnaya described the team’s run to the last four as a significant achievement, noting that Sunshine Queens had equalled a feat last accomplished in 2015, a testament to the determination, resilience and renewed fighting spirit displayed throughout the competition.

The ODSFA Chairman particularly praised the technical crew led by Coach Tayo Onilude, saying her appointment brought a remarkable tactical transformation that reinvigorated the team and restored confidence within the squad.

According to him, the impact Onilude has been evident since she assumed leadership of the team, with Sunshine Queens recording an impressive run of 10 matches, winning seven, drawing one and losing only two. He noted that the impressive sequence of results played a crucial role in redefining the club’s season and positioning the team among the country’s top performers.

“Coach Tayo Onilude and her technical crew deserve immense credit for the positive turnaround witnessed in the team. The tactical discipline, improved confidence and fighting spirit displayed by the players are clear indicators of the excellent work being done,” Ogbonnaya said.

He also lauded the players for their commitment and unwavering determination throughout the competition, stressing that they represented Ondo State with pride and dignity despite falling short against Nasarawa Amazons in the semi-finals.

The ODSFA Chairman urged the team not to dwell on the defeat, reminding them that football is an unpredictable game where victory and defeat are part of the sport.

“I want the players to keep their heads high. They have made Ondo State proud by reaching the semi-finals, something the club last achieved in 2015. They should put the defeat behind them because football can be funny at times. What is important is to learn from the experience and come back stronger,” he added.

Ogbonnaya reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to supporting Sunshine Queens and providing the necessary environment for sustained success, expressing confidence that the team would build on this impressive campaign and achieve even greater milestones in future competitions.
