Portugal and Man United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has called for Cristiano Ronaldo to receive a fitting farewell whenever the Portugal captain eventually decides to end his international career.
Fernandes said he hopes Ronaldo does not leave the national team under disappointing circumstances, insisting that the legendary forward deserves to be celebrated properly.
In a post obtained from Fabrizio Romano’s C post on Sunday, Fernandes was quoted as saying, “I hope Cristiano does not leave the national team… and when or if he wants, it should be on a beautiful day to celebrate Cristiano; not like this,”
Ronaldo is Portugal’s greatest icon, says Bruno Fernandes.
The Portugal midfielder also highlighted Ronaldo’s significance to the country, describing him as the biggest icon in Portuguese football.
“He deserves the best. Cristiano is the biggest icon of our football, our country.”
Fernandes’ comments reflect the enormous respect Ronaldo continues to command within the Portugal camp. Whenever the five-time Ballon d’Or winner chooses to bring his international career to an end, Fernandes believes the occasion should be a celebration of his remarkable contribution to Portuguese football.
