The Chairman of the Ondo State Sports Council, Hon. Abimbola Oladimeji, has ordered the immediate commencement of renovation work of the Olympic Standard Swimming pool of the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
This is as he expressed the deplorable state of the swimming pool, describing the situation as unacceptable.
Abimbola stated this while addressing the Congress of the Ondo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Akure.
He lamented the years of neglect and lack of maintenance that had left the swimming pool in a condition unfit for sporting activities.
The chairman noted that the facility built to international standards, had reportedly suffered years of inadequate maintenance, therefore requiring urgent attention.
He said that the renovation of the pool would be done within the next few weeks and would invite stakeholders like sports writers to see the new dawn of sports development had started.

He said he would work closely with the association to help propagate his achievements and solicited the cooperation of all members of the association to achieve the set target.
“I have ordered the commencement of the renovation work at some sections of the stadium, starting from the Olympic-standard Swimming pool.
“Also, renovation has started at the stadium entrance and re-fixing the gates. We are going to work together to achieve greatness in the development and discovering talents for sporting glory in the state.
It would be recalled that Abimbola assumed office on Monday and had commenced several renovation work on the sports Complex.
