Sunshine Stars U-19 will face a stern test when they take on elite league side Barau FC of Kano in the Men’s President Federation Cup Round of 16 clash on Saturday at the Bwari Township Stadium, Abuja.
Ahead of Saturday’s encounter, Sunshine Stars U-19 have enjoyed an impressive run in the competition.
They began their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Harmony FC of Ekiti in the playoff round at Iwo before stunning Nigeria Premier Football League side Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in Ilorin. The team then secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against Gwarinji FC of Bauchi at the Area 3 Football Field in Abuja to set up the showdown with Barau FC.
Speaking with journalists after the team’s evening training session, Head Coach Nike Ayeni expressed confidence in her players’ readiness for the crucial fixture.
“The boys are fully aware of the task ahead and are battle-ready.
They are determined to fight tooth and nail to ensure they emerge victorious on Saturday,” she said.
Coach Ayeni also revealed that all necessary logistics have been put in place by the management of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) under the leadership of Mr. Divine Ogbonaya. She noted that the ODSFA Chairman was physically present in Abuja when the team defeated Gwarinji FC in the Round of 32.
She further appreciated the people of Ondo State for their unwavering support and encouragement, assuring them that Sunshine Stars U-19 will continue to make them proud with their performances.
The team’s coordinator, Evans Abdulsalam, also commended the ODSFA Chairman for his continuous support and commitment to the team, particularly in providing the necessary logistics and welfare for the players.
He pledged that the team would continue to give its best in bringing honour to Ondo State in this year’s President Federation Cup.
A victory for Sunshine Stars U-19 against Barau FC on Saturday will secure a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
