Following an impressive performance at the National Para Games in Abuja, the Deputy Director of Coaching at the Ondo State Sports Council, Babatunde Ayodele, has called on both federal and state governments to provide increased support for special athletes in Nigeria.

Coach Ayodele stressed the need for improved incentives and access to modern equipment to motivate athletes with disabilities.

He noted that adequate support would encourage more individuals to embrace sports as a career path rather than resorting to street begging.

He commended the athletes for their outstanding display at the tournament, adding that they have demonstrated the capacity to win laurels for Nigeria at international competitions if given the necessary backing.

Speaking further, Ayodele highlighted essential equipment such as wheelchairs and hearing aids as critical to enhancing the athletes’ performance and overall participation in sports.

He also urged both federal and state governments to consider providing job opportunities for special athletes to help them meet their financial responsibilities and improve their standard of living.

The Ondo State-born coach further emphasized that special athletes have consistently shown resilience and determination, bringing pride to Nigeria through medal-winning performances at international events.
