President Tinubu Sports Festival Aims to Boost Grassroots Unity, Youth Development — Official

Daodu Alex, Secretary of the Implementation Committee for the President Bola Tinubu Sports Festival, says the initiative was conceived by the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT) to promote national unity and mobilise community support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the event in Ondo, Alex said the festival had been taken across various communities as part of efforts to use sports as a unifying and sensitisation tool.

The GMT-organised sports festival started on Nov. 6 and had gone through Owo, Ikare and Okitipupa zones.

“Sports is a tool to bring people together. We have been moving round, engaging different groups, and the response has been encouraging,” he said.

“The impact is numerous because it involves primary school pupils, secondary school students, university undergraduates, and even elders are not left behind,” he added.

Alex said outstanding talents discovered at the festival would be taken to the Ondo State Sports Council for further development and grooming into future stars.

Also speaking, Olayemi Olalekan, Coach of Adeyemi Volleyball Club, called for wider participation and increased investment in sports development.

He urged government at all levels to provide more sports facilities and strengthen existing ones to encourage participation.

“With more facilities, people will come out to participate. Sports development requires investment and commitment,” he said.

Olalekan commended GMT and the organisers for putting the festival together and creating opportunities for young athletes to showcase their abilities.
