Osimhen Undergoes Successful Surgery, Ruled Out Of 2021 AFCON

Sporting Club Napoli confirmed that their prized asset would be unavailable for at least 90 days as he recuperates from the facial surgery.

The 22-year old former Lille of France starman was diagnosed with multiple displaced facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday.

Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti had earlier said that the striker could be back as early as December 19 but the club has confirmed that Osimhen will spend more time on the sideline than earlier projected

“Titanium plates and screws were used in the operation,” Napoli said on their website.

“The player is doing well and will remain under observation for the next few days.”

The news will be a blow for both club and country, with Osimhen in a rich vein of form at the moment.

Osimhen, who is Napoli’s top scorer this season with nine goals in 14 appearances, was substituted in the 52nd minute following a nasty clash of heads with Inter’s Milan Skriniar.

Napoli face Spartak Moscow in Europa League tomorrow and Spalletti must cope without Osimhen, Zambo Anguissa and Lorenzo Insigne, who hasn’t trained with the team due to knee problems.

Osimhen’s is a fatal blow to Nigeria’s as they aim to win their 4th Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON trophy in Cameroon next year.

Osimhen played pivotal role in Super Eagles qualification to the continental showpiece as he scored a join highest scorer 5 goals but would now miss what would have been his second appearance at the biennial competition.

The ex VfL Wolfsburg of German scored a goal each against Liberia and Cape Verde as the Super Eagles booked a place in the play-off of the 2022 World Cup qualifying series.
