Lagos has been selected as the host city for the 2027 African Grappling Federations Seminar/Workshop, with the Grappling Athletes Development Initiative (GADI), Nigeria, officially granted the hosting rights by the International Grappling Federation (IGF).
The decision was communicated in an official notification addressed to the National Coordinator of GADI, Mr. Olusesan Olukoya, by the leadership of the International Grappling Federation.
The 2027 continental seminar/workshop is expected to bring together representatives of African grappling federations, administrators, coaches, technical officials, athletes and other stakeholders to deliberate on the development, standardisation and expansion of grappling across the continent.
As the official host and local coordinating organisation, GADI will work in collaboration with the International Grappling Federation and participating African grappling federations to coordinate key aspects of the event. These will include venue arrangements, accommodation, transportation, accreditation, technical sessions, stakeholders’ meetings and other logistical requirements.
The International Grappling Federation, in granting the hosting rights to GADI, acknowledged the organisation’s commitment and contribution to the development of grappling and identified Nigeria as an appropriate venue for the important continental gathering.
The federation expressed confidence that the partnership with GADI would result in a successful seminar/workshop and contribute to the continued growth and development of grappling across Africa.
The 2027 event is expected to serve as an important platform for African grappling stakeholders to exchange ideas, strengthen collaboration and advance the sport’s development on the continent.
The hosting rights mark a significant opportunity for Nigeria to play a central role in the development of grappling in Africa.
