The Ondo State senior male volleyball team, popularly known as the Sunshine Spikers, is facing the risk of relegation due to financial challenges threatening their participation in the forthcoming National Volleyball League in Abuja.
Despite being one of the most successful volleyball teams in Nigeria and parading several national team players, the Sunshine Spikers are struggling to meet essential financial obligations required for the league.

Team captain and national player, Nathaniel Daniel, in an interview with journalists, appealed to the Ondo State Government to urgently come to the aid of the team to enable them represent the state effectively at the national championship.
Daniel commended the state government for its previous support, but noted that the team still needs urgent assistance to cover accommodation, feeding, and transportation costs ahead of the competition.
When asked if the team made effort to reach sports authorities in the state,Daniel reluctantly lamented that all efforts to reach those in charge of sports in the state have failed.

“My brother we have tried all possible best but no response so we have no choice than to beg his excellency to rescue us”
He added that the players have continued their daily training sessions at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, in the hope that financial help will arrive in time to prevent the team from missing out on the tournament and possible relegation.
