Tragedy has struck the Nigerian sports community as 19 members of the Kano State contingent lost their lives in a fatal road accident while returning from the recently concluded Gateway 2025 National Sports Festival.
According to reports, the victims include athletes, journalists, members of the medical team, and sports administrators. The accident has sent shockwaves through the nation, casting a dark cloud over what had been a celebration of sporting excellence.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
The 22nd National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games Ogun 2025 started from May 16 to 30, 2025.
