Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure secured a convincing 2–0 victory over visiting Gateway Football Club of Abeokuta in their Matchday Two of the 2025 Nigeria National league NNL encounter at the Akure Sports Complex.
Both goals came in the second half, with Opeoluwa Olufemi breaking the deadlock in the 73rd minute before substitute Michael Olalusi doubled the lead three minutes later.
Speaking after the game, Sunshine Stars head coach, Bobola Akinfolarin, thanked the fans for their unwavering support and assured that the team would continue to work harder in subsequent matches.
Also reacting, the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Mr. Divine Ogbonaya, said the club would not relent but remain focused on achieving its ultimate goal at the end of the season.
Efforts to get comments from Gateway FC coach, Ayo Filani, were unsuccessful as he declined to speak with journalists.
Sunshine Stars will face Inter Lagos in their next fixture.
