Sunshine Queens Football Club of Ondo State have secured promotion to the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership after an impressive run at the promotion playoffs in Umuahia, Abia State.
The Owena Queens sealed their return to the topflight with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kwara Ladies, courtesy of Ganiyat Adeleke’s decisive 17th-minute strike.
Head coach of the team, Oseni Rafiu, praised the players for their commitment and discipline, while urging them to remain focused as they prepare for the challenges of competing in the elite division.
Team captain, Lolade Akintunde, described the qualification as a reward for hard work and collective effort. Sunshine Queens completed the playoffs with three straight wins, scoring five goals without conceding any.
Meanwhile, Media Director of Blitzik sports, Alhaja Taibat Olaniyan, congratulated Sunshine Queens FC on their promotion to the topflight.
In her message, Alhaja Taibat Olaniyan said the achievement would serve as a motivation for the girl child and a morale booster for women in sports. She also commended Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Chairman of ODSFA, Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, the Team Manager, Mr. Kehinde Odogu, coaches, and backroom staff for their passion and commitment to the team’s success.
She, however, urged them not to relent but to build a formidable women’s team that would compete favorably with others and win trophies for the state.
