The Ondo State Football Association (FA) and the Ondo State Football Agency have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Coach Akin Olowokere, Chairman of the Akoko South East Local Football Council and Head Coach of Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan.
Olowokere reportedly collapsed during a routine training session with Shooting Stars in the early hours of Monday, August 11, 2025, and could not be revived. His passing has thrown the football community into mourning.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Ondo State FA, Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi, described Olowokere as “a bright mind whose knowledge of football was second to none.” He expressed heartfelt condolences to the management and players of Shooting Stars, the bereaved family, and all associates of the late tactician.
“This is a painful loss, but we take solace in the memories of his remarkable contributions to the game while he was alive,” Dele-Ajayi said, praying for God to grant the family and friends the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Similarly, the Ondo State Football Agency, in a condolence message signed by its Media Manager, Michael Akintunde, hailed Olowokere as a leader, mentor, and driving force for the teams he handled. The agency noted that his passion, dedication, and influence left an indelible mark on Nigerian football.
“Coach Olowokere was not just a coach, but an inspiration. We will always remember his motivating words—‘A true champion’—which will forever remain in our hearts. His spirit and impact on the game will never be forgotten,” the statement read.
