Sunshine Queens FC produced a tactically disciplined and spirited performance on Wednesday afternoon, earning a crucial away point against Delta Queens FC in an elite Women Football League encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The Coach Olujoungbe tutored side came into the contest determined to make a strong statement following their narrow 1–0 home loss to FC Robo in the league opener.

Their intent was evident from kickoff, as the Akure-based Queens showed grit, composure and a renewed sense of purpose.

Delta Queens, still hurting from a disappointing 2–1 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia, pushed hard for an early advantage.

However, they were met
by a well-coordinated and resilient Sunshine Queens side whose defensive organization frustrated the hosts all afternoon.

The defensive pairing of Lucky Victory and Rofiat Daranijo stood firm, cutting out dangerous runs and winning vital duels, while Bright Etim delivered a standout performance in goal. The young, smart and technically sound shot-stopper pulled off several brilliant saves to deny the hosts and keep her side in contention.a

In midfield, the duo of Alheri and Precious Edewor dictated proceedings with authority, breaking up play and launching purposeful transitions. Up front, Idika Chigozie and Bunmi Adenuga worked tirelessly, ensuring Delta Queens could not commit bodies forward with ease.

It was a complete, tactical response from a Sunshine Queens team eager to bounce back from their opening-day setback, and the result reflected their determination.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach Kayode Olujoungbe expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, noting that earning a point in Asaba against a disciplined Delta Queens side was no small feat.

“Picking a point away in Asaba is never easy. I must commend the resilience and character of my girls. The motivation from management and our supporters back home played a big role in this result,” he said.

Coach Olujoungbe added that the team’s next home match will be approached with utmost seriousness, urging fans to continue supporting the players as they push for a stronger run in the league.
