Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Chairman and Second Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, announced on Friday, that the new NPFL season will kickoff on Friday, August 22, 2025.
Elegbeleye, speaking at the NFF headquarters in Abuja, emphasized the significance of the date as part of the federation’s strategy to align domestic football calendars with continental competitions.
As both NPFL Chairman and Second VP of NFF, Elegbeleye said the move underscores the federation’s commitment to providing consistency and boosting league performance across Africa.
He also noted that the season kickoff will mark the revival of the full 20-club format, following a successful 2024–25 campaign highlighted by Remo Stars clinching the title in May.
The new season’s fixtures, broadcast arrangements, and player registration deadlines are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
This announcement marks a pivotal moment for Nigerian football, with a clear schedule now in place, clubs, broadcasters, players, and fans can prepare for what is expected to be a competitive and high-profile season.
