Super Falcons complete remarkable comeback to secure 10th WAFCON title
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have clinched a historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over hosts Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Captain Ghizlane Chebbak and forward Sanaâ Mssoudy put Morocco in control with a 2-0 lead, but a spirited Nigerian side responded through Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini to complete a stunning turnaround.
Both sides started the match with attacking intent, but it was Morocco who broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, as Chebbak unleashed a powerful strike from distance to put the home side ahead.
Nigeria’s troubles deepened just before the half-hour mark when Mssoudy doubled Morocco’s advantage, beating defender Michelle Alozie and calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.
