Italy clinched third place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Brazil after a 0-0 draw at Mansour Muftah Stadium in Aspire Zone.
Brazil played with 10 men from the 15th minute following Vitor Fernandes’ red card, yet still threatened through Rhuan Pablo and a disallowed header from Felipe Morais.
Italy created several chances through Valerio Maccaroni and Federico Stefanoni, while Tommaso Campanello missed opportunities in the second half.
In the shootout, Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni saved two spot-kicks before Alessio Baralla scored the decisive penalty to secure victory. The result gives Italy their best finish since 1987, while Brazil miss out on adding to their four U-17 world titles.
