Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, says his government will continue promoting and supporting grassroots sports development across the state.
The governor made the remark while declaring open the maiden edition of the Governor’s Under-17 Football Competition held at the Akure Sports Complex.
Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that the initiative was designed to provide young and talented footballers with a platform to showcase their skills and pursue professional careers in the sport.
Earlier in an address, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Segun Omoyofunmi, appreciated the governor for his unwavering support, noting that the tournament would positively engage the youth and steer them away from social vices.
The competition, featuring over 15 football team will be contested across the 18 local government areas of the state.
