Sunshine Stars left it late but delighted fans as they defeated Green Lock FC two goals to nil in their second Group A fixture of the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament in Sagamu, Ogun State.
After a goalless first half, the Akure-based side broke the deadlock in the 60th minute through striker Gabriel Adepoju, before Kehinde Oluwole sealed the victory in the 82nd minute.
Adepoju’s lively performance earned him the Man of the Match award, having inspired the team’s attacking rhythm and opened the scoring.
Speaking with journalists after the match, Sunshine Stars head coach Bobola Akinfolarin commended his players for executing tactical instructions effectively, which he said earned the team a vital three points.
Coach Bobola added that the ongoing Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament is part of the team’s build-up to the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season, aimed at sharpening the players’ fitness and cohesion.
Sunshine Stars, now with three points, will next face Sporting Lagos FC on Monday, 20th October 2025, at the FC Ebedei Stadium, Sagamu, by 4:00 p.m.
