In a landmark moment for Nigerian football, Fodox Sports, a reputable European sportswear manufacturer, has officially signed a five-year kits partnership deal with the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) a first of its kind in the history of any Nigerian club.
The deal, which covers all ODSFA teams Sunshine Stars FC, Sunshine Queens FC, and the Sunshine Stars U-19 team, marks a new era of professionalism and global recognition for the state’s football outfits.
Speaking during the signing ceremony held at the Games Village, Oda Road, Akure, the Chairman of ODSFA, Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, described the partnership as “a remarkable step forward” for football development in Ondo State.
Mr. Ogbonnaya expressed profound gratitude to the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his unwavering support towards sports development, particularly football.
He highlighted the progress made under the current administration, attributing it to the Governor’s vision, the cooperation of stakeholders, and the dedication of players and staff.
He further commended his committee members, ODSFA staff, and the players for their resilience and commitment, describing the fans of Sunshine teams as “passionate and loyal supporters whose love keeps the teams motivated.”
Representing the Governor at the colourful, carnival-like event, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Oluwasegun Henry Omoyofunmi, applauded Mr. Ogbonnaya’s leadership and vision in transforming the agency. He described the five-year kits deal as “incredible and unprecedented,” assuring that the state government will continue to give full support to ODSFA and its teams.
The Director of Fodox Sportswear, Mr. Adrovic Senad, expressed delight at partnering with Ondo State’s flagship football teams.
He noted that this is the first-ever long-term kits deal with a Nigerian side, adding that Fodox is pleased to associate with Sunshine Stars due to the team’s rich history and growing reputation.
Fodox Sports is an international sports apparel brand known for producing high-quality jerseys, shorts, football boots, and sports equipment, with a strong presence across Europe and other continents.
During the event, captains of Sunshine Stars, Sunshine Queens, and Sunshine Stars U-19 unveiled the newly designed kits before excited teammates, top government officials, and enthusiastic fans.
The Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter, Mr. Segun Giwa, who led journalists to the event, described the signing as “massive and a morale booster” for football in the state.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Hon. Akinrotoye Kehinde, said the deal would serve as a strong motivational factor for all ODSFA teams.
The well-attended ceremony drew dignitaries from various sectors, including members of the Ondo State Football Coaches Association, the Referees Council led by Mrs. Bola Ajayi Sekiteri, the Veterans All Stars Association, The football Association, supporters’ clubs, journalists, and staff of the Ondo State Football Agency.
With this groundbreaking partnership, Ondo State once again positions itself as a pacesetter in football development and a model for other states in Nigeria.
