It will be an evening of legacy, excellence and the Olympic spirit this evening as the Nigeria Olympian Association (NOA) hosts a special celebration at Zeus Paradise Hotel, Mabushi, Abuja, as part of its ongoing National Summit.
NOA President, Olumide Oyedeji, the event themed “The Labours of Our Heroes Past,” will celebrate distinguished Olympians and their families and key figures in sports development in Nigeria. It will also spotlight discussions on athlete welfare and recognition.
Among those to be honoured are former Super Eagles captain Augustine Eguavoen and teammate Samson Siasia (1988 Olympics), Olympic medalist Deji Aliu (1996, 2000, 2004), Henry Nwosu (1980, 1988), and long jumper Yusuf Alli (1984, 1988).
Others include Armelia Edet (1972), sprinter Samson Oyeledun (1980, 1984), retired boxer and 1972 medalist Isaac Ikuohria, handballer Mary Mkpolulu (1992), and weightlifter Cosmos Sampson Idioh (1980).
Beyond the Olympians who will be recognised, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Services; Kunle Solaja, publisher of Sports Village Square, Larry Izamoje, Chairman, BRILA Communications PLC will also be celebrated for their distinguished career, contributions to the wellbeing of athletes, Olympians and commitment to Olympic movement
