Celebrating a Titan of African Wrestling: Olusesan Olukoya Turns 60

Olusesan Olukoya, one of African professional wrestling’s most influential figures, has turned 60 a remarkable milestone in a life dedicated to elevating the sport across continents.

For nearly four decades, since his involvement began in 1988, Olukoya has been a central force behind the growth and recognition of professional wrestling in Nigeria, across Africa, and beyond. His commitment and leadership have left an indelible mark on the sport’s history and development.

Olukoya currently serves as the Secretary General of Pro Wrestling Africa (PWA), the continent’s main governing body for professional wrestling. Through this role, he advocates for the sport across Africa and represents African wrestling interests on the international stage.

In addition to his role at PWA, he holds several other prestigious positions:

Director of Publicity at the Nigeria Pro-Wrestling Federation (NPWF)

Executive Director at Pro-Wrestling Afrik Promotions Ltd, a licensed promotion company

Chief Operating Officer (COO) and board member of the Golden Wrestling Federacy (GWF) based in Florida, USA, under the leadership of Dr. Jim McDowell, known as “The Golden Boy”

President of AIWF Africa, a title earned through decades of experience, knowledge, and contributions to the sport

Often referred to as “The African Wrestling Encyclopedia” or “Mr. African Pro-Wrestling,” Olukoya’s influence goes beyond administration. He is also a passionate writer, publisher, and promoter. His long-running publication, Wrestling Update, provided coverage of Nigerian and African pro wrestling for years and reached readers both locally and internationally.

His impact stretches across borders. Olukoya has played a pivotal role in promoting professional wrestling in countries such as Ghana, Togo, and the Benin Republic, helping to establish thriving wrestling communities. He’s also traveled extensively across Europe, Asia, and the United States, building connections and promoting African wrestling on the world stage. Even Zimbabwe’s wrestling team is now gearing up to join the Pro Wrestling Africa network, further expanding his legacy.

Beyond titles and travels, Olukoya is best described as a promoter, manager, columnist, publisher, crusader, and activist for African professional wrestling. His tireless dedication has helped shape the landscape of the sport on the continent.
