As Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, prepare to face Mali in the final of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Championship, sports administrator Mr. Segun Ikuesan has expressed confidence in their ability to clinch the title.

In a telephone interview with our sports correspondent in Akure, Mr. Ikuesan said he believes the Nigerian team has what it takes to emerge champions once again.

“I am confident that D’Tigress will win the championship. The team is solid and cohesive, and they are on the verge of making history as the first African team to win the title five times in a row,” he stated.

Mr. Ikuesan, a former chairman of the Ondo State Basketball Association, also urged the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) to prioritize the consistent organization of local league competitions to sustain the country’s dominance in the sport.

Coach Rena Wakama’s side will lock horns with Mali tonight at 7 p.m. in the championship final holding in Ivory Coast.
