Captain of the Ondo State Volleyball Team and national player, Daniel Nathaniel, has sent a heartfelt Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal to the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over the worsening condition of the team at the ongoing 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League in Abuja.
Speaking with journalists, Nathaniel explained that players have been catering for their own preparation, training, transportation, and feeding from their personal pockets. He revealed that the Sunshine Spikers are now stranded in Abuja and have resorted to sleeping in open spaces due to lack of accommodation and general support.

Despite these setbacks, the captain praised the team’s resilience, noting that the Sunshine Spikers marked their dominance by defeating the highly rated Kada Kings 3–1 in their opening game — a result he described as proof of the squad’s exceptional talent.
When asked whether the Ondo State Sports Ministry was aware of their participation, Nathaniel confirmed that all relevant stakeholders were fully notified before the team embarked on the trip to Abuja.

He appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene, stressing that the Sunshine Spikers are the only team currently representing Ondo State in any national top-flight league. He warned that failure to complete the league could attract fines, penalties, and even automatic relegation.
Nathaniel lamented that the team, which parades over three national players, is currently taking refuge at a car park inside the National Stadium, Abuja.

Also speaking, player Idowu Afun appealed to sports stakeholders in Ondo State to come to the aid of the team, noting that their current condition is discouraging despite their determination to make the state proud.
