The Olowo of Owo kingdom Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye says the ancient kingdom of Owo will soon unveil its own football club.
Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye stated this during the dinner and award night marking the 2020 Sports writer association of Nigeria SWAN Ondo state chapter at the international event center DOME Akure.
The monarch while lamenting the low interest and support giving to grassroot sports development in Nigeria over the Europeans charged stakeholders that give maximum support to the development of sports from the nooks and craning of the country.
The monarch further promised to revive the famous Owo cup and inspire secondary schools sports competition.
During the award ceremony notable sportsmen and women,stakeholders and sports administrators were recognized and decorated.
Ex-Minister of Sports, the late Sir Alex Akinyele, was honoured with the posthumous award which was received by his children.
Other recipients of awards are National Wrestling Coach, Purity Akuh (Coach of the year), Ondo State-born Table Tennis player, Mati Taiwo (Sports Man of the year), Number one Wrestler in the World, Odunayo Adekuoroye (Sports Woman of the year), Sunshine Stars Captain, Abe Sunday (Footballer of the year), Wumi Oshobukola of Sunshine Queens (Female Footballer of the year), while Ondo State Volleyball Team emerged as the team of the year.
Other prominent Nigerians honoured and decorated are; MD/CEO of Elizade Motors, Chief Michael Ade Ojo (Lifetime Achievement), Chief Alex Ajipe, the CEO of Klickonnect (Patron), The Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Hon. Gbenga Edema also (Patron), Founder, Moyero FC, Ekiti State, Mr. Olanrewaju Moyero (Patron), among others.
Pioneer Coach of Sunshine Stars, Chief Michael Fabomi and former head of Coaching of the Sports Council, Adeojo Martins got posthumous awards.
